So after about a week with the website screwed up, basically offline the Nashville Feed is back. I think the todays post will have to be about website data management and what to do when it all goes to hell. Kind of like what happened here.
First thing you should be doing is making regular back up copies of the website and database. If I hadn't done that all the work done here would have been lost. We were able to recover all user accounts, posts and comments.
Second thing to do is get the website back up as soon as possible. With in a week we had lost almost two thirds of our daily traffic. I had not realized how quickly Google will remove you from their index. The site has dissappeared from simple searches that it had appeared on the first page. I'm curious to see how long it will take to return to previous levels.
The nice thing about all the problems that I had was that it forced me to upgrade the content management system software. The new version will allow new features and extentions to our website. So with that said, welcome to The Nashville Feed 2.0.
