One of the things that made MySpace so attractive to music artists was the simple ability to create a special profile that fits the needs to an artist. All you had to do was sign-up, fill some details like your schedule, upload photos and music and then start building your fan base. With Facebook it’s not so easy; in fact it’s downright confusing. If you’re a band do you start a group or single profile on Facebook? The group seems better but you can’t add applications to groups like you would on a personal profile. Then there’s really no music features. Some of these questions I’m working out and hope to give you answers in a future blog.
So when you boil it down MySpace is music easy and good at it while Facebook is not. That might be changing though. In my morning reading I came across several articles stating a rumor that Facebook is either starting its own MP3 download store or partnering with Apples iTunes. If either happens it’s a step in the right direction for Facebook. A better addition would be artist profiles or group categories with special features like schedules, blogs, and music streaming for music artists.
Footnote: I had auto trouble this morning and I didn’t write anything over the weekend which caused the post to be late today. Sorry about that.
