Mini Review: The Black Crowes at the Ryman

August 29, 2007 The Black Crowes are one of my all time favorite bands. In fact I can still remember riding in my mother's car listening to 103 KDF hearing "Remedy" for the first time...I think I was 14. And that was the song that started a two and a half hour set that, in my opinion, was the best Crowes performance I have seen. The energy was strong, the set list was pretty damn perfect and the band...well, they did the mother church of country music proud... they had more chemistry than I have ever seen. Hearing "Seeing Things" live was almost too much. That song is incredible on it's own, but the liberties that Chris takes brings every emotional word of the song to life. They started an acoustic set with covers of Mel Tillis's "Sweet Mental Revenge" and Gram Parson's "She" during which I swear I got the chills. Those weren't the only covers in the set. They also played Bob Dylan's "Girl From North Country" and the Band's version of "Don't Do It" was the only song in the finale. The show seemed short to me until my friend pointed out that they had been playing for 2 and a half hours straight... Anyway, they can't get back here soon enough. After last nights show, I believe a road trip is in my future.

I agree

The show was great. They really gave us our money's worth. It was my sixth time seeing the band and I must agree they were "tighter" than I have ever seen them. This show was only topped for me by the one where they opened for Tom Petty at Starwood and the power went out during pouring rain. But the show went on!!!!!!!!
