BarCamp Nashville: Are You Creating Community?

Over the weekend there was an event held in Nashville called BarCamp. It was a free one day conference described as:

We will bring together entrepreneurs, technology visionaries, digital creators, music revolutionaries and marketing gurus under one roof for twelve hours of education, innovation and recreation.

There was goodie give-a-ways and the best being from Nashville’s very own Griffin Technologies. It was hot in the Exit/In but that didn’t keep away the crowd of people eager to learn. I met some other local bloggers and made some good connections. Well worth it, I look forward to the next BarCamp.

The constant theme was “community” and traditional marketing won’t work in this “community.” The keynote speaker Mitch Joel hit the mark of many things I believe. He brought up the idea of marketing in the sense of making a slash has shifted to the idea of dropping an idea in water letting the ripples to reach out. This YouTube video demonstrates it very well.

As an artist what kind of “community” are you building? Are you creating ripples like “lip dubbing” or asking your fans to help?
